Onskin Content Team
Your guides through the skincare chaos
Have you ever felt overwhelmed by the enormous number of skincare products on the market? You’re not alone. Even with years of experience, it can be a challenge to find products that entirely match your needs. Especially if you’re one of those who know the exact ingredients you want to include. That’s where the OnSkin’s Skincare Finder comes in.
This tool is like an advanced skincare search engine that helps you find the products you need. Looking for specific ingredients? Prefer certain brands? Need targeted effects? The Skincare Finder helps you narrow everything down in seconds. And as a result, you get a personalized, science-backed shortlist of products for your beauty bag.
Let’s get a closer look at how this skincare product finder works in detail.
What Is the Skincare Finder?
The Skincare Finder is a powerful tool inside the OnSkin app that lets you filter skincare products based on multiple parameters. Think of it as an extended search engine tailored to your skin. You can tick one, several, or all criteria, and then get a curated list of products that fit your specifications. Building a personalized skincare routine has never been easier!
How It Works
To start using the Skincare Finder:
- Install OnSkin on your iOS or Android device.
- Sign in or create a profile.
- Take a short skin type quiz to help the app understand your skin and goals. You can update this information later in your skincare profile—for example, by marking ingredients you want to avoid.
- Open the Skincare Finder under the Explore section.
- Select your filters and generate your product list.
What Can You Filter By?

Here’s what you can filter by:
Product type: face cream, face mask, face scrub, face mist, cleanser, sheet mask, face toner, face serum, eye cream, sunscreen, face oil, aftershave, shave cream, repair cream.
Your skin type: dry, normal, combination, or oily.
Desired effects: moisturizing, calming, anti-acne, tone evening, and anti-aging.
Your age group: 12+, 16+, 25+, 30+, 40+, all ages.
Key ingredients you already trust or love: niacinamide, hyaluronic acid, vitamin C, retinol, bakuchiol, peptides, salicylic acid, azelaic acid, glycolic acid, and more.
Pregnancy or breastfeeding: opt for skincare safe for breastfeeding or pregnancy.
Our science team’s score: sort by low-to-high or high-to-low.
Team review status: access to expert reviewed skincare products.
Favorite brands: select one or more brands, or leave blank to see all options.
Once you’ve chosen your filters, the tool generates a list of products that match your criteria. From there, you can see how safe each product is, check how well it matches your skin, dive into ingredient details, read user reviews, and finally build a routine that’s truly yours.
As a result, you can save hours of research and guesswork!
Why the Skincare Finder Actually Works
The beauty of the Skincare Finder lies in its detail-oriented approach. Many skincare apps or online stores offer basic filters like “for oily skin” or “anti-aging”. But they rarely account for the specific ingredients or effects that matter to informed users. OnSkin bridges that gap.

Here’s what the tool can give you:
Ingredient transparency. You can filter for ingredients your skin loves or skip those you’d rather not use.
Comprehensive filters. There are multiple criteria at your disposal to narrow options and get exact matches.
Science-backed scores: You can sort products by their score—from low to high or high to low—based on the latest scientific data and rigorous analysis by OnSkin’s medical and cosmetic science team. Our guide for beginners explains the safety rating in detail and how it’s assigned.
Expert guidance: You can limit the list to products that are evaluated by skincare professionals, so your recommendations are both data-driven and expert-approved.
How Emma Found Her Ideal Skincare
Meet Emma, a 26-year-old professional with combination skin. She struggles with mild breakouts along her chin and occasional dryness on her cheeks.
Emma knows she wants a moisturizer with niacinamide (known for reducing sebum production) and hyaluronic acid (which is a hydration hero!), and ideally, one that is cruelty-free and has been evaluated by experts.

Before OnSkin, Emma would spend hours browsing websites, reading reviews, and checking never-ending ingredient lists. Doing this, she often felt unsure if a product would suit her skin type or if it would actually address her concerns.
But the Skincare Finder changed everything, and here’s how Emma uses the tool:
- She selects product type: Emma starts with “face cream.”
- She chooses their skin type: Ticks “combination.”
- She picks product effects: Selects “anti-acne.”
- She sets the age range: 25+.
- She selects key ingredients: Niacinamide and hyaluronic acid.
- She sorts by science score: Chooses high to low because she wants the best-reviewed formulas first.
- She selects “Reviewed” to see only reviewed products.
Within seconds, the tool generates a list of products that perfectly fit Emma’s preferences. Each product (this is how the OnSkin app actually works) shows a detailed breakdown: skincare product safety rating, ingredient explanations, how it affects her skin type, and whether it aligns with her skincare goals.
For Emma, this is a game-changer. She can now confidently choose beauty products that are tailored to her skin—instead of guessing or experimenting blindly.
Who Benefits Most
The Skincare Finder is perfect for anyone who:
- Wants a highly personalized skincare routine
- Understands or wants to explore the impact of ingredients on their skin
- Struggles with trial-and-error shopping
- Prefers expert-reviewed products rather than generic recommendations
- Is focused on details and wants a full breakdown before making a purchase
Don’t consider yourself a skincare expert? No worries! Even beginners can benefit, as the tool allows you to start simple and gradually refine your filters as you learn more about your skin.
And the best part is, the Skincare Finder is available for free, albeit with some limitations. But if you find you need more flexibility and full access to advanced features, you can try the PRO version. When you first launch the app, you’ll have the option to enable a trial that unlocks all PRO features, including unlimited product scans, the Personal AI Skin Helper, hair product analysis, user reviews on beauty products, and more.
Still, you can continue using OnSkin’s core features for free at any time.
FAQ

Where do I start with OnSkin?
Download the app and think of a product you’d like to know more about. Then, go to the main screen and choose how you’d like to get the info —by manually looking it up in the search bar, by scanning its barcode, or by simply taking a picture of the packaging. Once you’ve done any of these, you can see how safe the product is and if it suits your skin or hair (if this analysis is available).

What is Safety Rating, and how is it calculated?
In OnSkin, we base product rates on ingredients. Each is closely studied by our medical team and then evaluated. This way, each product gets a score from 0 to 100, with 100 as the safest level.
Safety Levels
- Excellent (76–100)
- Good (51–75)
- Not great (26–50)
- Bad (0–25)
These scores are backed by the latest scientific studies. You can find links to the resources we’ve used on each ingredient page. To assess the safety of product ingredients, we evaluate them according to the following parameters/criteria
- Endocrine disruption risk / Reproductive toxicity
Indicates the probability of mimicking, blocking, or interfering with the body hormones.
- Сarcinogenicity
Measures the potential risk of inducing cancer.
- Allergy risk
Estimates the probability of an allergic reaction.
- High concentration alert
Determines the risk of being unsafe in certain amounts.

What is Skin Match?
Based on the info you input about your skin type, age, skin care goal, and other “settings,” OnSkin checks how well a product is tailored to your unique skin needs — it’s basically like a dermatologist helping you find the right products, minus the fees and the long wait. The product you’re checking might be labeled as It’s a match!, Hit-or-miss, or Not a match for you. The app also detects ingredient groups such as Anti-acne, Anti-inflammatory, Moisturizes, May be drying, Comedogenic, and others — by tapping one, you see exactly what ingredients from this or that group are in the product.
