Peptides

Peptides are short chains of amino acids that act as signaling molecules for skin cells. What do peptides do? Unlike large proteins, they can penetrate deeper layers of the epidermis and influence biological processes, making them a key ingredient in modern anti-aging skincare. Effects vary by peptide type (there are enzyme inhibitors, neurotransmitter inhibitors, carrier peptides, and signaling peptides), but they all help fight signs of aging.

How to use it

You can use peptides for skin any time of day, in any season, during pregnancy or breastfeeding. They’re found in creams, serums, and other skincare products. Peptides work best in leave-on products that stay on the skin longer.

Suitable for

All skin types, especially in anti-aging skincare.

Things to know

Compatible with all ingredients. Work particularly well with over-the-counter retinoids, enhancing each other’s anti-aging effects.

FAQ

1. How long does it take to see results from peptides?

Peptides are molecules that work slowly and cumulatively. They don't give an immediate effect, as they need time to “encourage” skin cells to become more active. Therefore, with regular use, it takes at least two months to see results.

2. Can peptides replace retinol? Are peptides safe?

No, peptides can't replace retinol. They work through different mechanisms, and retinol is difficult to replace. However, peptides are a safe alternative, especially during pregnancy or if you have sensitive, dehydrated, or dry skin, as retinol is less well tolerated in these conditions or may be contraindicated.

3. Are all peptide products equally effective?

There are four types of peptides: signaling peptides, carrier peptides, neurotransmitter-inhibiting peptides, and enzyme-inhibiting peptides. They all work differently, but what they have in common is that they provide anti-aging effects.
