Lactic acid is an AHA (alpha-hydroxy acid) naturally present in the skin as part of the natural moisturizing factor (NMF), helping to keep skin healthy and elastic.
What does lactic acid do? It hydrates, exfoliates (at concentrations above 8%), supports the skin’s protective functions (as part of NMF), and can even out skin tone and reduce pigmentation.
How to use it
You can use lactic acid for skin every evening in a leave-on product. Remember to always apply sunscreen in the morning.
Suitable for
All skin types, including sensitive skin (except for skin with rosacea).
Things to know
Avoid using lactic acid products above 8% at the same time as retinol, other acids, or irritating ingredients, unless under a doctor’s supervision.
